Emilia, as she was known, was born in Ovar, Portugal to Francisco da Cunha Farraia and Maria Jose Valente Fidalgo on March 14, 1927.
Emilia, knew much struggle throughout her life. She married Manuel Ferreira Valente at the tender age of 19 and they were blessed with 4 daughters and a son. Eventually, they made their way to the U. S. in hopes of a better life. She persevered in giving her children a better quality of life than she was able to have growing up. Some hobbies she enjoyed were knitting and crocheting. She supplied her children with handmade doilies, tablecloths, bedspreads and blankets for all the babies all with her handy work with love & care. Plants flourished in her care. She sang while she worked. She was feisty and had a great sense of humor. Her favorite pastime was, by far, spending time with her family-“the more the merrier.” She was always happiest when she was surrounded by those she loved.
Emilia is preceded in death by her husband Manuel and her brother Manuel da Cunha Farraia. Emilia is survived by her five children-Maria Valente-Salvador (Jose), Maria Jose Henriques (Manuel), Francisco Jose Valente (Rosaria), Cristina Valente Galeano (Fredi) and Catarina Valente. Her sisters, Laura Valente Barreto and Maria Joaquina Farraia. Ten grandchildren-Jason Valente, Joanne, Daniel and Gabriel Henriques (Lauren), Jennifer Humphreys (Jonathan), Brian Valente, Brendan Galeano (Lisa), Timothy Galeano, Sara and Melissa Langevin. Six great grandchildren, Noah and Juliana Braz, Alessia and Matteo Humphreys, Brady Austin and Adriana Rose Da Silva.
