IN THE CARE OF
Green Funeral Home
Mary Josephine (Burns) Godfrey, age 95 of Danbury, wife of the late Clarence L. Godfrey passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice, Danbury on May 4, 2022.
Mary was born June 30, 1926 in Danbury, to Edward and Agnes (Lynch) Burns. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and attended college at what is now Western Connecticut State University, before marrying Clarence L. Godfrey on July 5, 1947.
In addition to her husband Clarence, Mary was predeceased by her sisters: Helena Adlers and Margaret “Peg” Hartell, and her brothers: Edward, John, and Leo Burns, and her daughter Carol Ann in 1969.
Mary is survived by her daughter Cheryl Lynn Scillia and her husband Leo, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker, and could frequently be seen gardening or sitting in the yard reading a book or the Danbury News Times paper. She loved reminiscing about the trips she had taken with her husband throughout the country, and to Ireland and England. She was a lifelong parishioner of Saint Peter Church, and could always be counted on to help with and attend the various church programs and activities. She was so happy to be one of the countesses of the Church.
The Godfrey family would like to extend their thanks to the staff members of Community Helping Hands of Danbury, Bridges of Trumbull, and Regional Hospice of Danbury, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday May 10th at Saint Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury on Tuesday morning from 9:00am until 10:00am.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Mary’s memory to Saint Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810, or to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810 .
