
Mary (Parisi) Goncalves 89, was called by our Lord Jesus Christ to join her beloved husband Joseph in Heaven on April, 9, 2015. Mary was born in Danbury on January 16, 1926 to Concetta (Ragonesi) and Sebastiano Parisi.
She was a lifelong Danbury resident and grew up in the once famed “Barbary Coast” neighborhood before her father purchased a house at 38 Morris St. where she married and made her home for most of her life. Mary worked at The Barden Corporation as an assembler, and also supervised the kitchen at Morris Street School for many years known and beloved as “Mrs. G.” to generations of school children. She was an active member of the Amerigo Vespucci/Colonna Lodge #160, and St. Joseph Church.
Mary was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an extremely talented homemaker and an exceptional cook, specializing in Italian cuisine and desserts.
Mary is survived by her sons John Goncalves and wife Phyllis Cohen of Danbury, Gary Goncalves and wife Doreen of Danbury, Alan Goncalves and wife Pauline of Bridgewater, David Goncalves of Danbury; and also by her six Grandchildren Kristin, Jonathan, Amanda, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Alexandra. Mary was also survived by her dear cousins Millie Barbera, Josephine and Dino Potenziani, Ronnie Tomassi and families as well as the Rao family and her beloved sister-in-law Laurinda Goncalves. She leaves behind her loving felines Virginia, Sofie, and LouLou.
Mary was predeceased by her treasured toy poodle Kali, and felines Fluffy, Kiki, Steffi, and Fiona. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Mary’s home companion Etura Pierce for her loving support and friendship throughout Mary’s illness
A Memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Saturday, April 25th at 10:00 a.m. Per Mary’s wishes there will be no calling hours.
