Mary A. Toth, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the Regional Hospice with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Joseph R. Toth for 52 years before his passing in 2009.
Mary, born to Mary (Dombrowski) and Vincent Jancewicz, was a lifelong resident of Danbury and attended St. Joseph’s and Danbury High School. After graduating high school in 1947, Mary enrolled in the Danbury Hospital Nursing School and graduated in 1950.
She worked for many years at the Danbury Hospital and later in her career at Filosa Convalescent Home. Mary was a natural caregiver not only in her profession, but as a mother and grandmother.
Mary was an avid walker who would never turn down the offer to hike a trail or park in Connecticut. Even weeks before passing she could be found walking the paths of Wooster Cemetery never missing an opportunity to point out her favorite weeping beech tree. She loved spending time with family and friends from Hilltop Manor and Kimberly Place.
Mary hosted many family holidays that always included competitive games of Sequence and Rummikub, but the time spent with her grandchildren she cherished. She enjoyed teaching them to swim in the pool and cheered them on at many of their soccer and basketball games.
Mary was a devoted UConn Women’s basketball fan and enjoyed watching the Sunday wind-down of the PGA golf tournaments.
Mary was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her children: Thomas of Danbury; Joseph of Tacoma, WA; Melissa (Daniel) of Bethel; and Katrina (Gerald) of Wethersfield. Her sister: Anna (Jancewicz) Kish of Bridgeport. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Donovan (Julia) Walsh, Jackie (Robert) Booth, Matthew DesRoches (Michelle Moore), Douglas DesRoches; and her two great-grandchildren: Abigail and Robert Booth.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary is predeceased by her first husband, Lieutenant Laurence Myers; her brothers, Edward and Joseph Jancewicz; and her sister, Helen Jancewicz.
