Matthew C. Kelly, 43, of Pleasant Valley, NY and formerly New Fairfield, CT passed away on July 25, 2020 at his home in Pleasant Valley.

Matt was born in Bridgeport, CT, a son of Kevin and Nancy Kelly. He attended New Fairfield High School and Chapman School of Seamanship in Stuart Florida.

While Matt loved working on boats, he was also a plumbers apprentice later in life. Matt had the greatest sense of humor, he could make anyone laugh with his quick wit and never pulled any punches. He spoke the truth from his heart and loved the Mets, just like his grandpa Ray Kelly. While he struggled with addiction and substance abuse throughout his life, he never gave up trying to recover and embraced the hardships dealt to him. Matt was a genuine people person, charming and loved.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his brother, Neil and wife, Kelly of Worcester, MA; brother, Devin and wife, Kate of Asheville, NC; sister, Maggie and fiancé, Tom of Poughquag, NY; brother, Andrew and wife, Kathleen of Palm Bay, FL; and his numerous nephews and nieces: Grace, Erin, Quinn, James, Tiri, Ronan and Julian, all of whom loved him dearly. And his beloved dog, Mugsy.

A private service will be held Friday July 31 for family.

Please omit flowers, contributions in Matt’s memory may be made to St. Christopher’s Inn at Graymoor, 21 Franciscan Way, PO Box 150, Garrison, NY 10524 or go to https://stchristophersinn-graymoor.org/support-recovery/donate/

To all who loved Matt and touched his life, thank you for caring.

Matt,
I thank God for you! You were a breath of fresh air when you came to live with me, picking me up when I fell off my crutches into the coral rock breaking 3 ribs. You could fix anything! You were so funny, so entertaining and always helpful. I will never forget going to the AA New Year's eve party with you. You tried to fix me up with a good looking guy telling me "He Passed His Pee Test".

I love you and know that I will see you again.

In the many good times our families shared, one wild Scrabble game stands out. I played the word "MUZ" to the outrage of the rest of the players. I supplied the explanation that it was the fine hair on the back of the forearm. You were the only one to to buy that definition, and from then on every time we met we'd bump forearms and share a smile. And didn't you have a smile. We'll share one again someday, in a place that doesn't grade on spelling. Farewell, Muz Brother.

Matt, we shared so many great adventures and moments together throughout our High School years. It did not matter if we were hanging around your parent's driveway or playing pool at the old Q Billiards you always had a smile on your face and a witty one liner to share that would make everyone laugh. Your kindness will be missed in this world. RIP my friend.
To the Kelly family, I am sorry for your loss, my heart breaks for all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. My god help you all find peace and strength during this difficult time.
Love to all,
Ryan

I'll remember the day you were born; babysitting you and your giggles when you peed a fountain on the changing table; a bundle of energy at age 7, running with all the kids-Kellys -Papps and Bogeys; when you came into your own as a lyrically smutty-mouthed teen; the adult talks ,listening to my advice and me taking yours; enjoying your facebook plumbing adventures. Then the chill down my back when I heard you had passed. You always told the unvarnished truth about the way life is, in your own unvarnished delightfully profane style. I will miss you Matt.

Dear Kelly Family, I am so sorry to hear of Matt’s passing. He was an excellent plumber having fixed several issues at our house but more importantly he was a wonderful man. He was full of hope and he was full of encouragement for others that battled similarly. I cannot tell you how much we valued his perspective. I hope you all find some peace in God grace.
