Michael Aberisk, Jr., 96, of Danbury, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Saint John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury. He was the husband of the late Mabel Shaker Aberisk.
Born in Lawrence, MA to the late Michael, Sr and Rose Haddad Aberisk, Mike moved to Danbury in 1928 and attended Danbury Schools. He was a 1940 graduate of Danbury High School. Mike was a WWII Naval veteran, service from 1942-1945. He later served during the Korean War.
A longtime employee with Republic Foil in Danbury, Mike retired after over 35 years there. He had previously worked as a leather tanner in the hatting industry as well as a carpenter and butcher. Mike enjoyed golf and was an avid photographer and sportsman. He was member of several veteran and social clubs, including the American Legion Post 60, Danbury, and the Lebanon American Club. He was also a parishioner of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, Danbury.
Besides his wife and parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Aberisk. Survivors include his daughter, Lynda S. Aberisk Barton and her husband, Thomas Kiernan, of Danbury. Many cousins also survive.
The Rite of Burial will take place on Thursday July 26th at 11:00am in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church,125 Kohanza St., Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury with military honors.
The family will receive friends at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church on Thursday morning from 10:00am to 11:00am. Contributions to St. George Antiochian Church would be appreciated.
