Michael was born in 1940 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael S. O’Mahony I and Veronica Siccardi O’Mahony, and was the older brother to John and Thomas. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Semmelhaack O’Mahony for 56 years, the cherished father of Michael III and wife Tracey, Christine, Stephen and wife Kathryn, and Carolyn and husband Jonny Hoglund, and the adored grandfather of Liam, Rosemary, Eleanor, Clare, Michael H., Emilia and Leanna.
Michael always said that his biggest accomplishment was marrying Dorothy and having his four children. Outside of his family, one of his biggest passions was using his analytical skills to figure out solutions to complex problems.
Having graduated from Manhattan College with his Bachelor’s degree, and Fordham University with his Master’s degree in Physics and Mathematics, he went to work for the Boeing Company in Huntsville, Alabama. At Boeing, Michael made a significant contribution to the aerospace program for the Apollo/Saturn V missions to the moon. For his accomplishments, Michael was entered into the Smithsonian Institution Roll of Honor in 1968 for his landmark mathematical solution enabling space navigation. He later relocated to Connecticut to begin working for General Electric, and began a successful career in Data Warehousing.
Michael’s favorite memories were of vacationing with the family in Florida, and memories made while making sure his young family accompanied him on his business trips.
Private funeral services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, CT.
