Olivette was born on September 21, 1916, to the union of Christopher and Leila (Durwarder) Ettrick, in Old Kingston, Jamaica, W.I. She was the youngest of five children Christopher Ettrick, Albert Ettrick, Cecilia Ettrick Burke, and Sylvia Ettrick Cooke. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Olivette married the late Aston Edgehill which shortly after lost the love of her life in a tragic accident in 1945 she moved to New York City in search of new beginnings and opportunities. She married late Carl Ignacious Holwell and from this union, Anthony Joseph Holwell and Cynthia Ann Holwell were born. She was a devoted loving wife and mother who instilled family values and moral integrity.
Olivette was a loving and caring person, she was selfless always thinking of her loved ones first. She taught us the importance of family and the meaning of love. She began traditions that will be handed down for generations to come. She will be remembered for her vivacious spirit and her ability to withstand all of life's challenges. She has shown us that in life, anything is possible. She had a wonderful sense of humor and style. She was highly intelligent, feisty, articulate, cultured, dainty, classy, spunky, sassy and organized. She enjoyed using her creative abilities to crochet, sew, knit and design jewelry. She loved reading, learning, listening and dancing to music, spending time with family and always had a smile on her face.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her children (2) Anthony Joseph Holwell (Gloria) and daughter Cynthia Ann Holwell Rollins (Frank). Grandchildren (6): Darlene Holwell Peterson (John), Michelle Cancel DaSilva (Andre), Leila Holwell Torres (Brian), Shannon Cancel; Anthony Holwell, Jr., and Marina Holwell. Great-grandchildren (14): Cheyanne Holwell, Isabella Torres, Julian Weed, Emily Atwater, Leanna Holwell, Andrew Weed, Chelsea Holwell, Joshua Torres, Madison Holwell, Aiden DaSilva, Elijah Holwell, Brendan DaSilva, William Rosario and Elena Smith.
Calling hours for Olivette will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St, Danbury, Connecticut 06810. Following the calling hours will be a memorial service at 7:00 PM.
