Patricia Eileen (Jugler) Durkin, age 68 of Danbury, Connecticut, moved from this life to the next on Saturday, December 15, 2018. She was born to the late Francis Jugler and Katherine (Devine) Jugler on December 27, 1949.
Patty attended St. Joseph School, St. Peter School and St. Gregory School before graduating from Immaculate High School in 1967. Patty then studied at Western Connecticut State University and earned a B.S. in Nursing. As a registered nurse she worked in New York state and Boston, MA, but came home to continue her career at Danbury Hospital, retiring in 2002. At different points in her life she was a volunteer with St. Peter School, Immaculate High School, the Danbury School and Business Collaborative, and the Danbury Museum & Historical Society. She was also a board member and active participant in the Danbury Garden Club. However, her favorite volunteer role was “stay-at-home-grandma” to her three beautiful grandsons who she loved with all her heart.
Patty cherished her time with family and always made family her priority. She is survived by the love of her life, Joseph Durkin, whom she married on a gorgeous August day in 1971. They had a tremendous life together, full of small quiet moments and great big adventures. They rode elephants in the Nepalese jungle, danced the tango in Argentina, repeatedly visited their favorite getaway St. John USVI, and meandered through European capitals and countryside enjoying their partnership and time together. Patty was the devoted mother to three children: Brigid (Durkin) Guertin of Danbury, Daniel Myles Durkin and Timothy Joseph Durkin, both of New York City. In 2004 Patty welcomed son-in-law Gary Guertin into her life and heart. Patty enthusiastically welcomed grandsons Matthew, James and Adam Guertin who were blessed to call her Grandma and receive her love ‘to the moon and back.’ Patty had a large and ever-expanding family with whom she celebrated life - especially on Christmas! Patty is survived by sister Maureen (Jugler) and Paul Matthews of Simsbury CT, brother Brian and Cindy Jugler of Brookfield, brother Brendan and Joyce Jugler of Danbury, sister Nancy (Jugler) Miller of Baltimore, MD, and brother Sean and Ellen Jugler of New Milford. Patty is also survived by Joseph’s brothers and wives Charles and Diane Durkin of Sarasota, FL, Michael and Ann Durkin of Sarasota, FL, and sister-in-law Christine Durkin of Danbury. Patty is survived by dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as innumerable friends from all corners of her life.
Patty’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the caregivers who work tirelessly in Danbury Hospital’s Oncology Unit. They have been her angels, and the family is grateful for their compassion.
Please join Patty’s family and friends as they gather for a wake and mass to celebrate her life. Visitors are welcome at Green’s Funeral home 57 Main Street Danbury, CT 06810 on Tuesday, December 18th between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 19th at St. Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury, CT. Internment to follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
