Peter was born on June 29, 1935 in Bronx, New York to Remo and Pauline (Vecchi) Curioli. He was the eldest of five siblings with three brothers and one sister. He graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx in 1953. After high school, he attended the School of Engineering and Design in New York.
Peter then began working in construction as a superintendent. He started at Planet Construction and then opened his own business, Keystone Contracting. Over his career, he worked for E.W. Howell, HRH Construction, Marco Martelli Inc., Lettire Construction, and many other companies. He built hospitals, schools, libraries, research laboratories, and synagogues. He built the gymnasium at West Point Academy and was the owner’s consultant during the Essex House Hotel and Condominiums renovation. He led major projects at Rikers Island, JFK airport (including the Iberia terminal), and Port Newark (for Maersk Shipping).
On November 7, 1959, he married the love of his life, Antoinette. Together, they raised a daughter, Laura, and a son, Peter Jr.
Peter was an incredible man whose zest for life was unmatched. He exuded love with his warm smile and laugh and spread light to each person he met. His family brought him immense joy. He loved adventuring on road trips with his darling wife, children, sister, and brother-in-law. They traveled across the United States and Canada. Favorite destinations included Northeast Harbor, Maine; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Florida; and National Parks in Wyoming, Utah, and California. He was passionate about many things but his most cherished hobby was collecting Lionel Trains. He fell in love with Lionel Trains as a young boy and went to Madison Hardware in Manhattan with his father to buy his first set. He collected hundreds of beautiful trains and shared his knowledge and passion with everyone he met. Christmas at his home in New York always meant listening to the whistle of the trains running around the tree. Peter also adored spending summers at his home on Candlewood Lake, where he would tend his garden, play the accordion, share meals, and tell stories late into the night. Peter had an unwavering faith in God that carried him through life and he shared that faith with anyone who was lucky enough to listen.
Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Antoinette, his father, Remo, his mother, Pauline, and his two siblings, Paul and Louis. He is survived by his siblings Geraldine and Lawrence, his son Peter J. Curioli, his daughter Laura Nemeth, his son-in-law Peter Nemeth, his granddaughter Alexandra Nemeth and husband Dmitry Slavin. Along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
