Known as Dick, Richard spent most of his adult life in Brookfield, Connecticut, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, service, friendship, and community. A graduate of Great Neck High School, Richard went on to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management in 1966. His time at Georgia Tech, and the bonds shared with his Kappa Sigma fraternity brothers, remained a cornerstone of his life; the discipline, loyalty, and leadership he developed there guided both his personal and professional path.
Richard was deeply proud of his family’s business, Aldine Metal Products, which was founded by his father, Robert Blessey, in Brooklyn, New York, in 1938. Over the years, Richard led Aldine through decades of growth, change, and modernization. He dedicated his career to building and preserving a company known for quality, integrity, long-term relationships, and commitment to American manufacturing. To those who worked with him, Richard was more than a business leader. He was loyal, unwavering in his commitment, and deeply committed to operating with integrity.
Outside of work, Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, and neighbor. He believed strongly in showing up for the people and organizations that mattered to him. In Brookfield, he was involved with many local groups and activities, including the Regional YMCA, the Brookfield Lions Club, the Brookfield Baseball Association, and other civic, youth, and community organizations. Whether through youth sports, service clubs, town activities, or simply helping where he was needed, Richard gave his time generously and left a lasting impression throughout the Brookfield community.
Richard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his loyalty to family and friends, his love of community, and his understated but meaningful way of helping others. He took pride in the success of those around him and found great joy in friendships, community events, family gatherings, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille (Lucy); his sons, Ryan (Caitlin) and Rodd (Kelly); his grandchildren, Cailin, Jayden, Benen, Kidist, Reagan, Birdie and Carsyn; brothers Robert, Raymond and Ronald and extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Richard’s legacy lives on through his family, the company he steadfastly led, the community he served, and the many lives made better by knowing him.
Richard’s family will receive guests from 4 – 7 PM on Friday, May 15 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, May 16 at St. Joseph Church, 1 Obtuse Hill Road, Brookfield. Burial will be at the family's convenience.
