He was born in Danbury, CT, the son of the late Phoebe (Curtis) Schlemmer and Alfred E. Schlemmer. After graduation from Henry Abbott Technical School, Richard proudly served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in Alaska. After his discharge from the Army, Richard met his wife Judy of 44 years when he was building her parents’ house.
Richard was predeceased by his sister, Marian (Schlemmer) Kouspos.
Besides his wife, survivors include his brother, Alfred E. Schlemmer Jr.; his sisters: Eleanor (Ronald) Gaboardi; Evelyn Foshay and Karen Boucher-Evans. Richard is also survived by many nieces and nephews who affectionately called him Uncle Duck.
Richard will be remembered for his boundless energy and skill. Richard owned his own business “Pride Carpentry” for many years. After retirement, he worked as a handyman at Reynolds Ridge in Bethel. He was always the first person to volunteer to help with any project, big or small. Richard will be missed by the family and friends he leaves behind.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, February 24, 2025, at St. Mary Church, Bethel, CT. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
