Robert was born in Port Chester, NY, on March 22, 1941, the son of the late Laurie and Elizabeth (Hennessey) Johnson. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Leslie E. Johnson, the love of his life. Having met as high school sweethearts, they were inseparable until her passing in 2020.
Robert graduated from Port Chester High School in 1959. After High School he proudly served in the US Army. Robert later worked at Avon Products, Inc. until his retirement.
An active parishioner at Saint James’ Episcopal Church in Danbury, CT, he was always finding ways to help others in any way he could. He was also a member of the Padanaram Hose Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years and could always be found cheering for his favorite teams, the Yankees and the UConn women’s basketball team.
In addition to Leslie, his loving wife of 58 years, he was the much-loved father of Jennifer and her husband, Richard Pane; Robert and his wife, Lynette Johnson; and Laurie and her husband, Bill Klous.
There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family. Robert was most proud of his four grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply: Meghan and Alexander Pane; and Ashley and Emily Johnson. His grandchildren were his absolute joy, and he never missed a chance to support them at every game, dance recital, school event, and graduation. He proudly shared their accomplishments with everyone he met.
Robert is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Mangini; his brothers-in-law, Michael and his wife, Marissa Wellstood, and Peter and his wife, Shelley Wellstood; as well as his many nieces and nephews—Katrina Merlino, Louis Wellstood, Jason Mangini, Justin Mangini, Amanda Wellstood, Nancy Short, and Gail Logan—whom he loved very much. He was surrounded by a caring community of friends and neighbors, for whom the family is deeply grateful.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; his brother-in-law, Joseph Mangini; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Wylie; and his brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Karen Provino.
