Robert Edward Muehlfeld, 92, of Danbury, CT, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day... unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
Robert was born on September 18, 1933, in Danbury, CT to Christian (Otto) Muehlfeld and Mildred Hill. His adventurous childhood was spent on Hospital Avenue in Danbury where he enjoyed the outdoors on countless adventures driven by his inquisitiveness and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife.
Robert’s early education was spent at Danbury schools. He graduated from St. Joseph's and often spoke of his journeys walking to school and his attempts to behave in catholic school! He attended high school and later received his GED.
Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army in May of 1953 and stationed at Fort Devens, MA. While serving in the Army during the war he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in May of 1955 and served in the Army Reserve where he completed 8 years of service. Robert shared countless stories of his “Army buddies” and their mischievous antics. Although it was in time of war, Robert had fond memories of his time in the Army and was very proud to have served his country.
Robert married Cora Roselle Abbott on June 21, 1956, and purchased their current home where they resided for 69 years. Robert took great pride in his house. With love, hard work and determination, he was driven to provide for his family. He built a loving home for his wife and two daughters, always instilling good values and work ethics as well as the importance of being strong and independent.
In Robert’s early career he was a plumber by trade. Later in life he retired from Westinghouse (formerly Unimation) where he worked alongside mechanical engineers developing components for robotics used in manufacturing automobiles. Upon his retirement he stayed active enjoying his hobbies of fishing, hunting, woodworking and building beautiful furniture. His inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge kept his later years full of reading, exploring and sharing tidbits of all he learned.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He shared his love of wildlife and the outdoors with them, fishing, hiking and owning a Christmas Tree farm, creating many cherished memories. It is heartwarming to look back through photos of Gramps with his grandchildren, the love and admiration he felt for them was immeasurable.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Montoya and Doreen Robbins, his grandchildren Tommy and Jessica Robbins, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Cora Roselle Muehlfeld, his parents, Christian and Mildred Muehlfeld and his six siblings.

A Father’s Prayer
You think I’ve gone, that I have passed, a life that’s lost its will,
But look around, I am right there, living with you still.
I watch your tears; I feel your pain – I see the things you do.
I weep as well, each time you cry, my soul, it lives with you.
It gives such joy to hear you laugh, enjoying all you do.
And when you smile over bygone days, I smile along with you.
For we’re still one, just you and me, one mind, one soul, one being
Walking forward into life, though only you are seen,
And in the stillness of the night, feeling pain from being apart,
Stretch out a little with your mind and draw me to your heart,
For I am always right in there, always by your side,
For you have been, all my life’s days, my joy, my love, my pride.
