

Robert Alf Wirtig was born May 3, 1942, in Bridgeport, CT and passed away April 24, 2026, at Danbury Hospital, surrounded by the memory of a life marked by hard work, loyalty and adventure. He was the beloved son of the late John Wirtig and Ruth Swanson Wirtig.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Raffaela (Rae), as well as his son Robert, his daughter, Melissa, a granddaughter, Christine and Melissa’s faithful dog, Maggie. He is survived by his cousin, Janet, many nieces and nephews and many friends.
A proud veteran, Bob served as a sergeant in The United States Army from 1963 to 1966. His service reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment.
Bob dedicated many years to his work, holding positions at Macton Corporation and Rapid Power Technology Inc. He later served the community as a custodian at Morris Street School.
He was known to volunteer at summer camp, going on many field trips. He was a great role model for the students.
Outside of work, Bob found joy in adventure and friendship. Alongside his best friend, Joe Surovy, he spent time sailing to unique and memorable destinations, experiences that brought him great happiness and lasting stories.
Bob found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful connections playing game nights with his faithful group of friends. He loved playing pranks and also loved bantering back and forth to anyone who would banter back. He loved working with Legos, a hobby that reflected both his creativity and patience. Bob was also a devoted sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering for the Boston Red Sox, the New York Giants and the Hartford Whalers.
A special thank you is extended to Bob’s close friend and caretaker, whose steadfast dedication and kindness brought Bob comfort, dignity and companionship. Her care ensured that Bob was always well looked after and surrounded by warmth and compassion.
Bob will be remembered for his resilience, his work ethic and the deep love for his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and quiet perseverance.
Bob’s final wish was to not have any services. Following a family tradition, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his honor.
