

Roland R. Smith, “Smitty” 84, of Brookfield, CT passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Glen Hill Care Center in Danbury after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Joan M. Smith. Born in Danbury, CT, Roland was the son of the late Charles M. Smith and Melissa Lee Spiers.
He attended Danbury schools and was a graduate of Danbury High School and Henry Abbott Technical School. Roland served with the US Army stationed in Germany. A longtime employee with SNET, he retired as a Network Operations Engineer after over 35 years of service.
Roland was a 60 year member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid bowler and golf enthusiast, and also enjoyed UCONN Women’s Basketball.
Roland and his late wife raised their family in Brookfield. Roland loved spending time with his family, but he especially loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his children: Joanne Patry of Brookfield; Susan Martone and her husband, Joseph, of Brookfield; Roland G. Smith and Paula Chapla of Shelton; David L. Smith and his wife, Kathleen, of Brookfield. His grandchildren: Jerry Patry and his wife, Michaela; Jonathan Patry and his wife, Lydia; Jacqueline Maliga and her husband, Eric; Rudy Martone; Melissa Martone; Nathaniel and Cole Smith. His great-grandchildren: Jay Jay, Jerry, Colin, Ava, Mason, and Jonathan. His siblings: Clara Silkman and Alfred (Sonny) Smith and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends will be received from 5pm-7:30pm on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Green Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:30pm on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Section 15, St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, CT.
