Sunrise 1/14/33 – Sunset 2/27/26
Rosa Julia Almonte passed away peacefully in her home on February 27, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. A faithful Catholic, Lula — as she was affectionately known to all — lived a life rooted in devotion to her faith and family.
Born in Janico, Dominican Republic, to Agustin and Bertilia Espinal on January 14, 1933, Lula was the heart of her family — quick-witted with a hilarious sense of humor, a woman whose love stretched across generations and whose presence could fill any room. She carried the warmth, strength, and spirit of her homeland with her throughout her life. Later making her home in Danbury, Connecticut, she built a legacy not of things, but of people — a very large extended family who adored her beyond measure.
Lula is survived by her daughter Rosa Rodriguez and her husband, Rafael Rodriguez; daughter Fran Almonte; son Vinnie Almonte; son Ralph Almonte and his wife, Mayra Almonte; daughter Nellie Almonte-Oromaner and her husband, Marc Oromaner; grandchildren: Alex and his wife, Raquel; Daniel; Emily and her husband, Miguel; Giselle; Janelle; Aliyah; and Brienna; great-grandchildren: Antonio, Camila, Xander, and Mylah; and countless siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Lula was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Rafael “Fellito” Almonte; her brothers Felix “Pontonio” and Alquide; and her beloved grandson, Jay Vargas.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 29 Golden Hill Rd., Danbury, CT.
Entombment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury.
