Ruth Goetz was born in Danbury, Connecticut, on Bastille Day, July 14, 1933; the daughter of the late Joseph Michael Smith and Edna Mae Heady. She was a lifelong Danbury resident who graduated from Danbury High School in 1951.
Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Richard Goetz, in 1954. They were faithfully married for over 63 years until Dick’s passing in December of 2017. Ruth and Dick are now once again reunited, having been temporarily apart for little more than these past nine months.
Aside from being a homemaker ever since getting married, Ruth was a secretary at the Ball and Roller Company of Danbury after graduating from high school. She also was a very active member of Eastern Star of Danbury, having attained the office of Worthy Matron.
Additionally, Mrs. Goetz volunteered for many years with the American Cancer Society. She also happily served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for her children. In recent years Ruth worked as an election moderator during Danbury elections.
Mrs. Goetz has been a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury, volunteering in many roles within the congregation.
Her chief ambition in life was to be a caring wife and loving mother for her family. Ruth’s only adamant request in her last few years was that she be allowed to spend her final days in her home with family.
In addition to her parents, Ruth Goetz was predeceased by all of her siblings to include brothers Ernest, James and Raymond; and sisters Florence, Beatrice, Delores and Harriet. She truly was the, “Last of the Mohicans”.
Ruth leaves behind her four children: Robert Goetz (Shari), Debra Morse, Gary Goetz (Laurie), Steven Goetz (Rebecca); their nine grandchildren, Jennifer Goetz, Kelly Donnelly, Christopher Morse, Julia Morse, Ashley Goetz, Michelle Goetz, Phoebe Goetz, Steven Goetz, and Shane Goetz: along with five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10am on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at St. James Church, 25 West St., Danbury, CT. Burial to immediately follow at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
The Goetz Family will be receiving friends and family from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
