September 22, 1966 – July 10, 2013
Ruth (Hubertus) Rowe and Bruce Kevin Loev, of Danbury, CT, died unexpectedly on July 10, 2013.
Ruth was born in White Plains, NY, on September 22, 1966, to Patricia and Robert Hubertus. Ruth grew up in Pleasantville, NY, with her twin brother Michael and older sister Sarah (Hubertus) Russo. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1984, where she excelled academically and athletically. Ruth attended the University of Delaware, receiving a BA in education and later receiving her Masters. In 1991, Ruth married Arthur Rowe. They made their home in Newtown, CT, where they raised their children Emily and Kaleb. Ruth and Artie's strong sense of family and community led to years of little league coaching, a home often full of family and friends, backyard barbecues and the traditional Christmas dinner full of love, laughter and red wine. Known for her nurturing and patience, Ruth was a strong role model for her children, living by the credo "Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose." Ruth dedicated herself to teaching children and spent her entire teaching career in the Pawling School District. Ruth was highly respected by colleagues and the community for her warmth, enthusiasm and passion for teaching. An accomplished athlete, Ruth was a tenacious shortstop, and an avid runner, completing several marathons. A talented guitarist, Ruth shared her love of music, from the Beatles to the Indigo Girls, through concerts, car rides and beach time on Martha’s Vineyard, where her parents created a home for family and friends to gather and relax, enjoy dinner on the beach, a Thanksgiving football game or an afternoon of clamming. Whether watching a sunset on Martha’s Vineyard, going out for an early-morning run, educating young minds or serenading all listeners, Ruth’s free spirit captured and inspired all who knew her. Bruce was born on May 5, 1962, in Wynnewood, PA. He attended elementary and middle school in Broomall, PA. He graduated from Edgemont High School in Scarsdale, NY, and then attended Lehigh University where he studied engineering, receiving his BA in 1983. Bruce worked as a civil engineer specializing in aviation for over 25 years, most recently working for URS Corporation in Scottsdale, AZ. He was a recipient of many awards in the field of aviation such as the ACC Board of Governors Award in 2003. In 1989, Bruce married Linda Wimpfheimer and two years later their daughter Jennifer was born in Albany, NY. Just before their son Brian was born in 1995, Bruce and his family moved to Orlando, FL. They spent four years there until making the move to the Arizona desert. One of Bruce’s great joys in life was skiing. He would spend the winters skiing as many weekends as he could in Colorado, Utah and Vancouver. Always able to shine on the mogul runs, he was happiest when skiing. Bruce also loved to play golf, fish and watch football, hockey and his children’s soccer games. He not only loved to participate in a wide variety of sports, but also passed down and taught this ability to his children. While driving to soccer games, or skiing down a mountain, you could almost be certain to hear classic rock playing in the background. An avid lover of all music, Bruce’s favorite performer was Elton John. Bruce taught his children to love themselves, to follow their hearts, and to let go of the negatives that may slow them down from enjoying life. He could easily put a smile on anyone’s face with his quick wit and sense of humor. His friends and family will love and miss him forever. Old flames, Ruth and Bruce had recently reconnected after losing touch for nearly 25 years. Ruth and Bruce celebrated their marriage on July 5, 2013, surrounded by family and friends in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Ruth is survived by her father, Robert, her stepmother, JoAnn, her children Emily and Kaleb, her twin brother Michael Hubertus (Kara), her sister, Sarah Russo (Joe), nieces Rachel Thomas and Melissa Hubertus and nephew Ian Hubertus, and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She is pre-deceased by her mother, Patricia Hubertus, whose memory continues to inspire and strengthen her family during this difficult time.
Bruce is survived by his mother and father, Pearl and Dr. Bernard Loev, his children Jennifer and Brian, and his brothers Glen and Larry. Bruce’s funeral was on Monday, July 15, at Bethel Cemetery in Bethel, CT. Shiva for Bruce will be on Wednesday, July 17, as well as Thursday evening July 18 at his brother Glen’s home in Bryn Mawr, PA.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, in Newtown, CT, followed by a private burial next to Bruce. In lieu of flowers, Ruth and Bruce's children have requested that donations be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
