Sam graduated from Flushing High School and married the love of his life, Joanne Palumbo, on October 12, 1980. He began working at a gas station at the age of 15 and went on to purchase a body shop in 1978, which he owned and operated until 2006.
He was a proud member of the Great Neck Benevolent Association. Sam was a devoted car collector and enthusiast who enjoyed fixing things, collecting free stuff, and working with his hands.
Sam will be remembered most for his generosity and willingness to help anyone, at any time. A true “MacGyver,” he could fix just about anything with only his Leatherman. Family meant everything to him, and he had a way of making nearly everyone feel like family. He was a father figure to many, a devoted husband, and someone who would never hesitate to help a stranger in need. A man of action more than words, Sam often showed his affection in his own unique way, by calling those he loved “meatball”. He also loved to teach others, always eager to share his knowledge and lend a hand.
Sam was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Daniel, and his older sister, Netty. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joanne; his children, Samantha, Lucy, Danny, and Matthew; and their partners, Nick, Mike, and Amanda; his brother Nick, his sister Rose, and his nieces and nephews: Danny, Tommy, Nick Jr., Jackie, James, Jackie, Nicki, Andi, and all of their partners and children.
Sam’s family will receive visitors on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 3 – 8 PM at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 9th at 11 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Parish, 21 Brush Hill Rd., New Fairfield.
Burial will take place on Monday, May 11 at 11:30 AM in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, NY. Those attending should meet at the office at 11:00 AM.
