Sandy Luis, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in hospice care, surrounded by her husband, her two daughters, and her best friend, on September 29, 2026. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, strength, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Sandy was born on July 3, 1973, in Fall River, Massachusetts, to Francisco and Leonilda Colaço, who were born in Lousã, Portugal, and came to the United States in 1971. Sandy was proud of her Portuguese roots and the family traditions that remained such an important part of her life.
Sandy dedicated 29 years to Danbury Hospital, working in the Pulmonary and Sleep Specialist office, where she later became Assistant Practice Manager. Sandy deeply loved all her doctors and staff in the practice and truly appreciated their love and support during this difficult past year. She was hardworking, motivated, organized, and a natural leader. She was someone people could always count on—a problem solver who knew how to take control of any situation and find a way forward. She also spent several years helping at her daughters’ dance studio, where she found another way to support the people and passions she loved most.
To know Sandy was to know someone who brought light into every room. She was selfless, funny, loving, and always put others before herself. She had a way of making everyone smile, even when they needed it most. She was also wonderfully goofy and knew how to let go, have fun, and be silly. Sandy welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and treated her daughters’ friends and boyfriends as her own. She was known for greeting people with a cheerful, “Hi beautiful!” or “Hi handsome!”—just one of the many little things that made her unmistakably Sandy.
Sandy loved the simple joys of life: wine, family gatherings, sending reels to the people she loved, Portuguese and country music, and watching the Lifetime Movie Network. She cherished family traditions, especially her famous French toast on Christmas morning. She had many sayings that her family will forever remember, including “That was fire,” “Love you lots,” and “À noite não há pressa, de manhã é que são elas.”
But more than anything, Sandy loved her girls. Her daughters, Brianna and Hailey, were her greatest pride and joy. She loved watching them dance, supporting their dreams, and cheering them on every step of the way. Being a dance mom was one of the roles she was most proud of, and she never missed an opportunity to tell someone about her daughters. She would do anything to give them the best of everything and was their biggest supporter, greatest advocate, and constant source of encouragement. She was an inspiration to them and to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sandy was also a devoted wife, daughter, sister, and friend. She was someone people leaned on, someone who could always be trusted to help, listen, and find a solution. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family, and she made countless people feel cared for and welcomed.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Nuno Luis; her daughters, Brianna Luis (Gabriel Sousa) and Hailey Luis; her parents, Francisco and Leonilda Colaço; her brother, Frank Colaço; her parents-in-law, Laurentino and Elizabeth Luis; her sister-in-law, Monica Luis Lima (Jason Lima); her niece, Emma Lima; her nephew, Aiden Lima; her best friend, Liz Pereira; her beloved cat, Lua; and her grand-kitties, Pantufa, Piper, and Zé, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren, friends, and extended family both here and in Portugal.
Sandy had a way of making people feel loved simply by being herself. Her kindness, humor, strength, and unconditional love for her family left an imprint on everyone around her. Her daughters will forever carry the lessons she taught them, the traditions she created, and the love she gave them so freely.
Sandy may no longer be here to cheer from the sidelines, welcome someone with a “Hi beautiful,” or say “Love you lots,” but her voice, her laughter, and her love will forever live on in the hearts of the people who knew her.
She was a devoted wife, an incredible mother, a loving daughter and sister, an amazing TiTi, a loyal friend, and, above all, a beautiful person who made the world brighter simply by being in it. She will be loved and missed more than words can ever express.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 10am to 12pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 1pm at St. Joseph Church, 376 Main St., Danbury.
