Sherby Jean Waller Callands passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022 at the age of 82, at St John Paul Center (SJP). Sherby was born in Pittsylvania County (Gretna), Virginia, November 11,1940, the daughter of the late Percy and Lois (Harris) Waller.
Sherby Jean lived most of her life in Danbury where she started work- ing at the age of sixteen. Her past employment was American Radionic Company for five years, Danbury Motor Inn for five years, Technic Power for two years, Glen Hill for five years or more, Ramada Inn and Holiday Inn 1981-1990, and Hilton Towers 1990-1992 until her retirement.
Sherby Jean was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church and active with the 60 Plus Ministry. Sherby Jean really loved people, most times you would see her would see her walking down Main Street with a big smile on her face going to handle her business, running her daily errands at the bank then, on to to do her other favorite things shopping and stopping at McDonald’s for coffee. At her community Wooster Manor she loved sitting outside and chatting with her neighbors.
During her time at SJP she became friends with everyone and was concerned about those who couldn’t help themselves “she’d say help them”. Again, with her infectious smile and comedic humor she was loved and will be missed by all.
Sherby Jean had no children but had many cousins and when asked she’d say she had two daughters, Pat Monroe, who managed Sherby’s care from Texas, and Yvonne Harris, who faithfully visited her every day. A special thanks to Charlotte Abraham who would help feed her in the evening and the Nurses/CNA’s at both SJP and Nuvance (Danbury Hospital).
Sherby is survived by one uncle, George (Lucinda) Harris and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sherby was preceded in death by her uncles, Hoover Harris, Carlton (Ned) Harris, Henry (Son) Harris, Jessie Harris, Theodore (Ted) Harris and aunts, Eula Hall, Lucy Douglas, and Nannie Monroe.
Home Going services will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday January 4, 2023 at the New Hope Baptist Church, Dr. Aaron B. Samuels Blvd., Danbury.
Burial will follow in the Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
