Sonny came into the world on November 24, 1934... and while he was raised in Brooklyn, he felt and followed the 'call of the wild'... into the woods, where he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and horseback riding, at the Peekskill Dude Ranch, where he took other people out on trails with him, so they could find their freedom as well. He sang there on weekends and would come to meet the love of his life, Carol McEneaney, from the Bronx. Together they attended rodeos, were square dancing partners, shared a devotion to Padre Pio, and set out to create a cherished family.
Four children came along the way: Bill, Cathleen, Cindy and Brian. And the music always remained a constant, as he serenaded his family on weekends and sang with the Triple A Ranch Gang, at the Danbury Fair every Fall.
A jeweler by trade, he created beautiful pieces for Tiffany's, Harry Winston, and his celebrity clients. For his beloved family, he created for them, a most beautiful life. Eventually, as their children grew up and ultimately out of the house, attending various colleges and following their careers, seven foster children, one by one, came into their hearts and home, to be raised by their guiding love.
They traveled extensively. The first trip was to Hawaii for their 25th Wedding Anniversary, and they went back every 5 years, the last being for their 50th, when their children and their children's spouses and grandson joined them. Other notable trips were to Ireland, the Grand Canyon, Canada, Montana, St. Maarten, Mexico, Honduras, Belize and the Caribbean.
He would always say, "I want to tell you that I love you, so that you know." And it was true
~ anyone lucky enough to be loved by him ~ KNEW IT.
