

Born to Marian McMahon and Everett Fenton Gidley, late of 54 Sutton Place South, NYC, and Old Chatham, NY, in 1929, Sue graduated from The Masters School at Dobbs Ferry, NY and Smith College, in Northampton, MA studying Political Science. She spent a year abroad in 1950, studying at the University of Geneva, and playing on the Swiss National Tennis Team, traveling extensively in Europe and North Africa.
Sue was a 60 year member of the First Congregational Church, New Milford, and served on the choir and many committees, notably as Deacon, Moderator, and Treasurer. She served as Chairman of the most recent Search Committee for the current Minister.
She was a former President, Young Republicans Club, Ithaca, NY, and a Member of the Republican Town Committee in New Milford. Sue was a 50 year member of the Lake Waramaug Country Club, serving on Tennis, Golf, Greens and Membership Committees, as well as the Board of Governors. She held the low gross scoring record for many years, and was an 11 time Women’s Golf Champion and 3 time Women’s Tennis Champion.
Sue performed in musicals and plays at LWCC, from South Pacific in the 1960s to Cabaret in 2008 and was an active member of the Sherman Players as well. Ms. Angell owned and operated Angell Title Service, LLC for 40 years in New Milford, but cherished family and friends above all.
Susan was predeceased by daughter Sharon Gidley Angell as well as her sister, Jane Gidley Rice of Charlottesville, VA and brother, Everett Fenton Gidley, Jr of New Canaan, CT. Survivors include her children: Jane Angell-Massey of Greenville, NC; Keith Gordon Angell of Washington, CT; and Michael Gidley Angell of Andover, MA. Her grandchildren: David Massey, and Keith, Jr., Ryan, Chad, Christopher, Kathryn, Jennifer, and Tim Angell. Her great grandchildren: Keith III, Colby, Madison, and Trevor Angell.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:30am on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the New Milford First Congregational Church, 36 Main St., New Milford, CT.
