Susan McGrath Charlesworth

Sue was born in Mt. Vernon, NY to Julius and Jennie (Ruparshek) Breimann on September 10, 1947. She graduated from Pelham Memorial High School and went on to study at Claremont Secretarial School in Manhattan. After school, she worked at IBM. She took years off to raise a family and went back to work at IBM in Southbury, CT in the 1980’s when her children were older.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, David Charlesworth; her daughter, Kelly McGrath Szalewicz (Ben) of Marblehead, MA; her son, Craig McGrath (Annye) of Huntersville, NC; and her four grandchildren: Emma, Clara, Jacob, and Evan Szalewicz.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 29 years, Bruce William McGrath, and her two brothers, Robert and Richard Breimann.

Sue loved crafts, the dogs and cats she had over her lifetime, and cooking for friends and family. In 1996 she and her husband, Bruce moved from Danbury, CT to Aiken, SC. She was a member of the Cedar Creek Ladies Club and St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for SeniorNet at the University of South Carolina Aiken, which was started by her husband, Bruce in 1996 to help people over age 50 learn computer skills.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Mariner and Care Dimensions who treated our mom with such exceptional care, compassion and support. Sue left her mark on

the people who knew her with her sharp wit, sass, and sarcasm. There’s a little less spunk in the world without her in it.

Friends will be received from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Monday, July 27, 2026 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:30pm on Monday, July 27, 2026 at St. Peter Cemetery, Lake Avenue Extension, Danbury, CT.
