Tamas was born on October 18, 1935 in Szikszo, Hungary. With the political and military conflicts at the end of WWII, the family fled first to Austria and eventually was able to come to America. They first settled in Virginia. When Tamas was able to secure work in New York and his older sister in Connecticut, the family moved to New York.
Tamas entered the Marine Corps in 1953 and served until 1957. He was very proud of his service and while active, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Tamas’ schooling started in Hungary, continued in Austria and concluded in the US where he was able to make use of the GI bill.
Tamas met his future wife Renate Paulo in New York City. They married in 1965. Tamas and Renate eventually moved to Danbury where Tamas worked with the family business, Interlab, Inc. as Senior Vice President. Tamas was beloved at Interlab, where his friendly and supportive personality was appreciated by everyone. He retired from Interlab in 2013.
Tamas loved spending time with his family and friends. He is remembered for his expert BBQ’s and many good times in his large garden. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and they regularly visited Europe, also other countries. He was fond of the Metropolitan Opera which they attended regularly as well as the many cultural offerings and friends in New York.
His Hungarian heritage kept him in contact with many of his compatriots and their events in this country and abroad. Tamas was very athletic, enjoyed boxing and fencing in his youth and later watched soccer, tennis and other sports. His huge smile and mischievous sense of humor, his willingness to help others and his fairness will be greatly missed.
Tamas is survived by his wife Renate Ludanyi, his daughter Reka Ludanyi and her husband Carlo Forzani. He was predeceased by his daughter Kinga Ludanyi. He is also survived by his sister Narcissa Layton, his brother Andras Ludanyi and his wife Marika and his brother Paul Ludanyi and his wife Theresa. Tamas is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Muffin and her husband Mike, Antal and his wife Denise, Panni, Paulette, Csilla, Aniko and her husband Brett, Lizy and Lona. Tamas was predeceased by his younger brother Tony.
The Ludanyi family will have a private memorial for immediate family only at Green Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:00pm on September 19, 2021.
