Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland to Charles and Ruby (Wakefield) Cunningham, RIP. Besides his wife of 54 years, Tom is survived by his children: Shannon Burdick of Port St. Lucie, FL; Gregory Cunningham of New Fairfield and Eileen Cunningham of Danbury. His brothers: C. Brendan Cunningham of New Milford and Ken Cunningham of New Fairfield. Many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Ireland, England and Spain also survive.
Tom was predeceased by his son, Thomas (T.I.C.), and his siblings: George, Fran, C. Stanley and Kathleen O’Neill.
Tom will be remembered for his empathy and generosity, always helping a friend in need. He loved Irish music and his beautiful singing voice enchanted friends and family with songs of love and struggle.
Called to New York City in the 1950’s as a master craftsman, there he joined the Carpenters Union #608 and in the 1970’s joined the Carpenters Local #210 in Connecticut until he retired. Known for his beautiful workmanship and ingenuity, if he did not have the right tool for the job (unlikely!) he was known to craft one for himself.
Tom was a past member of the Bronx Gaelic League, the Tyrone Pipe Band, The Donegal Association and the Emerald Association in New York. In Connecticut he was a past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and member of St. Edward Parish in New Fairfield.
As we grieve, we also celebrate love, celebrate life, and celebrate the ones we have lost and the ones we have left.
Friends are invited to join for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at St. Edward Church, New Fairfield. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield, CT.
There are no calling hours.
