As a husband, father and grandfather and a long career spent as a New York City Ironworker, he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement spent mostly on his beloved island of Martha's Vineyard.
Tom became a member of the New York City Local 40 Ironworkers in 1957. He spent his workdays building and repairing many of New York's most well-known bridges, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, Throggs Neck Bridge, and Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, among many others. During his career, he also worked to construct the New York World's Fair, the historic Shea Stadium, and worked as the Foreman restoring the treasured Statue of Liberty.
Born on December 15, 1936 in Bayside Queens, to the late Patrick and Bridgette McCue, Tom attended Bayside High School until enlisting in the United States Army. Tom was forever a New Yorker at heart. He will be remembered as one of the most outgoing and interesting people you would ever want to meet. He never forgot a face and if you were standing within a few feet of him, he wanted to know you. He used his gift for chatting and his wealth of knowledge to get to know new people and with that you would have a friend for life.
Tom married his soul mate, Flora (Sheridan) on June 3, 1962 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Port Washington, NY. He was always proud of their children, Jacqueline (RJ) Wylde, Michelle (James) Williams, Sheridan Patrick McCue, and Kathleen Palmer. Tom was particularly proud of his granddaughter Willow Elizabeth Williams.
Tom is survived by his wife, children, granddaughter, and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is pre-deceased by his sister Mary (Yakacki) and brothers Charles, Patrick, and William F. McCue and his nephews William D. McCue, Scott McCue and Stephen Yakacki.
Tom and his family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all close friends, the compassionate doctors, staff and medical team members at Praxair Cancer Center and Danbury Hospital, and family for their love and support.
