Tom was born on February 11, 1945 to Bertha and Thomas Moffitt in Danbury, CT. He attended Danbury High School, served four years in the US Navy (1963-1967), which included a deployment on the USS Intrepid during the Vietnam War, he also built several successful businesses and led many memorable adventures with friends and family.
Starting from a young age, Tom was a hard worker and consummate entrepreneur. Throughout his life, he built several contracting businesses and retired in 2016 - only to start another business - Brutus Broth, a pet food company, with his daughters. As the Chairman, he helped grow the company in his final years to a national brand, selling in over 5,000 stores and supporting over 100 animal shelters nationwide as well as military organizations like Project K9 Hero and the local VFWs.
A hard worker and selfless individual, Tom always wanted to help whomever, whenever he could. He was a dedicated and loving husband, a proud and dependable father and grandfather and a cherished and selfless friend to people from all walks of life. With an authentic and easy-going personality, strangers to “Tommy” became instant friends. Best known for his heart of gold, Tom was generous with both his heart and wallet, always putting the well-being of his family and friends ahead of his own.
Tom lived a remarkable life and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by both his parents and his brother, Richard. He is survived by the love of his life and bride of 54 years, Susan, as well as his four children: Kimberly (and Sean) Hehir, Thomas (and Suzanne) Moffitt, Scott (and Alina) Moffitt, and Susan (and John) Delegan; as well as his eight grandchildren: Maximillian (17), Reed (17), Michael (16), Matthew (16), Andrew (15), Evan (15), Christian (13), and Evania (10).
He wanted his countless number of friends to know he lived a good life, longer than he ever imagined. He accredited this to his amazing caretakers at Praxair in Danbury and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York, but also with the support from so many of his friends. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and service industry professionals everywhere.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 3:00PM at the Chapel of Our Lady – Canterbury School, 101 Aspetuck Ave., New Milford, CT.
