With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas F.X. Tooley, who passed away on February 11, 2025, in New Fairfield, CT, after a courageous battle with a lung disease. Born on September 18, 1944, in the Bronx, NY, Thomas lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love.
From an early age, Tom was an avid athlete, excelling as a swimmer and baseball player, though his love for sports extended far beyond his playing days and into coaching youth sports. A devoted yet long-suffering fan of both the Jets and the Mets, he remained ever loyal, even in the toughest of seasons.
Tom spent his career in the automotive and boating industries, working at all levels—retail, manufacturing, and consulting. His expertise and leadership left a lasting mark on those he worked with, but it was his charisma, kindness, and drive for improvement that truly defined him. A natural leader and an engaging public speaker, Tom had a rare ability to command a room, capturing the attention and admiration of those around him. Many of those who knew him best will remember sharing a good cigar or a cocktail in his company, always accompanied by his infectious smile and genuine warmth.
Above all, Tom was a family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane, sons Michael and Keith, daughters Kristine, Kelly, and Katie, and his cherished sister, Kathleen. His 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson, who affectionately called him “Grumpy,” were the light of his life, and he found immense joy in watching them grow.
Tom had a rare gift for making those around him feel valued, loved, and inspired. His kindness, humor, and unwavering generosity left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will continue to shine through the countless lives he touched.
Calling hours will be held at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT, on February 17, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield, CT, on February 18 at 11:00 AM, followed by the committal at Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow at Biscotti Ristorante in New Fairfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Tom’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at dogood.t2t.org/IMOThomasFXTooley
He was truly a special man, and his memory will continue to inspire and uplift us all. Rest in peace, Tom. You will be dearly missed.
