Born and raised in Danbury, Virginia graduated from Danbury HS, carrying forward a steady devotion to home, family, and community that remained a hallmark throughout her life.
Virginia was the devoted mother of two daughters, Brenda and Yvonne “Evie,” and the beloved grandmother of Rebekah Doty and Josh Doty (partner Lilly Gastineau). Her faithful presence was also deeply felt within her St. James Church family, where she was a lifetime member of St. James Episcopal Church and served with quiet dedication in the choir and as a Sunday School teacher.
Her commitment to service extended beyond the church as well. Virginia was active in the Masonic Order of the Amaranth and held the distinguished role of Grand Royal Matron from 1994–95, a reflection of the respect she earned through her kind-hearted spirit and steadfast reliability.
In the rhythms of everyday life, Virginia found joy in simple, meaningful pursuits—cooking for others, tending to her garden with a special fondness for irises, and sharing her home and heart as a devoted dog lover.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Cornelia (Morehouse) Wildman, her brother, Edward T. Wildman Jr. and ex-husband, Robert A. Benton.
Her life will be remembered with gratitude and respect by all who knew her, and with enduring love by those who were fortunate to call her family.
A Celebration of Ginny's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 West St., Danbury, followed by the interment of her ashes in the Cremation Garden.
