Virginia Carole Lias
April 6, 1940 – March 9, 2018
On March 9, 2018 Virginia “Ginger” Carole Lias (Mette) of Danbury, Connecticut passed away at her home from heart failure at 77 years of age. Ginger is survived by her husband, David, and daughters Catherine, Jennifer, and Margaret, two grandchildren, Ryan Metter (Catherine) and Amanda Gokey (Jennifer), and one sister, Geneva Lynne Owens (Mette). She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Curtis and Collin.
Ginger was born on April 6, 1940 in Madison, South Dakota to Mary Helen and Richard Mette. She married David Lias on August 16, 1960 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1964 where they remained until 1978 when they moved to Birmingham, Michigan where Ginger taught preschool for 9 years at St. James Episcopal Church.
In addition to her work as mother and teacher, Ginger was active in her local P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood chapter, a celebrated cook, an accomplished musician, and an avid reader. Ginger also enjoyed gardening and camping until her health began to decline.
There will be a small memorial service to celebrate Ginger’s life in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the P.E.O.
