Walter Pegoli, of Danbury, CT, went to his eternal rest on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the age of 97. Walter was born on March 5, 1929, in Senigallia, Italy. After coming to the United States in 1954, he married Alma Tranquilli in 1957; they were married for over 66 years, until her death in January of 2024.
Walter is predeceased by his parents, Fernandino and Santa Pegoli, and by his siblings Nate, Maria, Mario, Rick, Maggiorino, and Sergio and many of their spouses. He is survived by his son Walter (Abby) Pegoli, his daughter Nancy (Tom) Nunan, and by his grandchildren Christopher Pegoli, Nicholas (Megan) Pegoli, Tom Nunan, and Alexandra Nunan, and by many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and in Italy.
A devoted husband and father, family meant everything to Walter. For the vast majority of his life, Walter worked tirelessly and selflessly to provide for his family. Through his inspiring efforts, his children and grandchildren have experienced a life beyond what Walter could have imagined when he first immigrated to this country. Throughout their time in Danbury, Walter was a faithful communicant at St. Edward the Confessor Church, where he and Alma were founding members of the parish.
Walter worked an array of jobs during his lifetime, from repairing bicycles as a boy to making parts and tools for Sperry Controls. His most favorite and longest held job during his career as a tool-and-die maker was working for Cowan Engineering, where he and John Cowan worked side by side for several decades. Walter was known as much for his impeccable precision and impressive expertise as he was for his relentless work ethic and his trusted, valued partnership.
Walter and Alma spent their final years in Peabody, MA, at the home of Nancy and Tom, and he passed in Fernandina Beach, FL, at the home of Walter and Abby. Walter deeply appreciated the company of his family during the sunset of his near-century journey on earth. Our “grandpa” now makes one final journey to heaven, to be reunited with Alma and with so many family members and friends who have been waiting for him, in the company of the angels and saints.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 21 Brush Hill Rd., New Fairfield, CT. Burial will take place at St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury, CT.
