Amos B. (Moose) Mello, age 88 of S. Dartmouth, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Aguiar) Mello to whom he had been happily married to for 61 years.
Born in S. Dartmouth, the son of the late Amos and Philomena (Branco) Mello, he was a lifelong Dartmouth resident. Moose was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Navy and served overseas during the Korean conflict on the USS Earl B. Hall. Moose was employed at the Perini Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
Moose loved his family dearly, he was a devout husband, father and grandfather. He loved to go out to dinner with family, enjoyed going to the Naval reunions and was an avid Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers fan.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Dionne and her husband Bruce of Fairhaven; a son, Gary Mello and his companion Tammy Poirier of Dartmouth; his beautiful twin granddaughters, Jenna and Erin Mello and their mother who was like a daughter, Tammie Doyle; a special nephew Gerald Mello and his best friend, John “Merk” Medeiros. Moose was the father of the late Brian A. Mello and brother of the late Manuel, Frank, Germaine and Hilda Mello.
His funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Friends and relatives are invited. Visiting Hours omitted. Arrangements are in the care of WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. Burial in S. Dartmouth Cemetery.
