

Don Davies, 88, died peacefully at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home on August 26, 2011, after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband for 64 years of Mary Elinore (Turner) Davies, and the son of Ralph and Helen Davies of Padanaram, MA.
Don is survived by his wife Mary Elinore, four children (Stephen Davies from Fort Collins, CO; Emily Davies, Anchorage, Alaska; Philip Davies, N.Y.C., N.Y.; and David Davies, Hillsboro, OR) and eight grandchildren. His sister, Dana (Davies) Magee, lives in Newport R.I. His brother Stephen H. Davies died during World War II. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was born in Buffalo, N.Y., but grew up in Scarsdale, graduating from Scarsdale High School. He entered Williams College in 1941, but shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Army during World War II, eventually serving as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He graduated from Williams College Class of 1945, and worked for many years as an aeronautical engineer for General Electric, first in Marblehead, MA, and then Cincinnati, OH.
Don spent summers on Buzzards Bay, and sailing was a life long love. He was an enthusiastic member of the Lyceum Club in Glendale, Ohio, the Men’s Luncheon Club of New Bedford and the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth. He loved his family, friends and neighbors, and was always eager to lend a hand and help others in any way he could.
