Donald A. Mara

Born in Chelsea, MA, son of the late John and Marguerite (Corthell) Mara, he was a graduate of Randolph High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University. Donald was employed as a Technical writer for the Acushnet Company in Fairhaven for over 20 years retiring in 1990 and was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Mara was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Association; he was an affiliate of the Abraham Howland Masonic Lodge in New Bedford and a 50 year member of the Norfolk and Dedham Masonic Lodges. Don helped work the polls for the Town of Dartmouth and was a town meeting member. He was also a member of the Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Carl D. Mara and his wife Hisae of Atoka, TN, David J. Mara and his wife Jackie of Bedford, NH; Eric J. Mara of Dartmouth and David C. Faria of Dartmouth; six grandchildren: Sean P., Brian K., Alexander D., John R., Matthew C. and Jeannette M. Mara and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mara was also the brother of the late Robert Thuotte and Marie L. Lade.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1pm in the Smith Mills Christian Congregational Church. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the church at 11 Anderson Way, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
