Dorothy was born February 13, 1929 in New Bedford to the late Emma (Dickens) Houle, she lived most of her life in the city. The past two years she lived in Sippican Healthcare in Marion. Emma would like to say thank you to all the staff at Sippican for their amazing compassion and care, especially in the last few days.
Mrs. Scieszka graduated from New Bedford High School and went on to graduate from Fisher Junior College with her daughter, Emma. They were photographed and featured in the newspaper in 1978. She worked as an office clerk at Acushnet Company for 14 years and later she worked for the City of New Bedford’s Veteran’s services before retiring.
Dorothy belonged to the VFW Veteran’s Auxiliary Andrew Dahill Post. She enjoyed needlepoint and knitting and her family will remember her great cooking. They are also grateful for the many recipes she passed on to them. Dorothy was loved by all who knew and met her. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and making everyone laugh to tears. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Scieszka loved to spend time with her granddaughter, Kerrie and great granddaughter Kaitleigh. They shared the joy of watching many scary movies.
Every Friday she enjoyed having her hair done by Beverly and laughing with the other ladies at the salon and then going out for fish and chips or pizza at Fay’s. She loved her Heineken and Jack Daniels & Diet Coke. She also loved going for rides with her daughter and then going to her house to watch TV while Emma cooked her something delicious to eat.
She is survived by a devoted daughter, Emma Almeida; a granddaughter, Kerrie Naillon; great granddaughter, Kaitleigh Naillon; a grandson-in-law, Clint Naillon all of Fairhaven; dear friend Penny Chase and a few nieces and nephews.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Michael Almeida.
