Edwin James Bushell, age 92, of South Dartmouth died Friday, July 4, 2014 at Saint Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Crowe) Bushell and the late Lucille V. (Severtson) Bushell.
Edwin was born in Providence, RI to the late James and Frances C. (Hawkes) Bushell. Throughout his life he lived in Providence, and Pawtucket, RI, San Francisco, CA and South Dartmouth, MA for the past 44 years.
Ed was the Co-Owner, with his wife Barbara, of Crowell’s Fine Art & Custom Framing Shop in historic downtown New Bedford for 35 years before retiring in 2009. Prior thereto, he worked at Bo Bernstein’s Advertising Agency in Providence for several years. He was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II.
Ed loved architecture and art and studied the Bauhaus approach to art and design. He was a member of the ACLU, enjoyed politics and was especially passionate about civil rights. He was also a member of the Humanist Community of Cambridge and the Unitarian Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Heidi E. Johnson of Osceola, MO and Stephanie J. Garcia and her husband Mario F. of Marion, MA; five grandchildren: Aaron J. and Eli J. Sherman, Heidi B and Michelle S. Johnson and Bruno Garcia; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was also the brother of the late Eunice Reed, Flora Bushell and Dorothy Stevenson.
His Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at his home on 101 Gulf Road, South Dartmouth. Relatives and friends are invited.
