Born in Beverly, MA the daughter of the late Stedman and Margaret (Dowd) Hatt, she was a graduate of Beverly High School and the Katherine Gibbs School. Mrs. Hayes was the owner and operator of the former Village Kindergarten in Dartmouth for 28 years, she was a a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Dartmouth. In 2004, Mrs. Hayes was the recipient of the Marian Medal Award of the Fall River Diocese for her dedication to the St. Mary’s Women’s Guild. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was a founding member of the Dartmouth Council on Aging.
She is survived by her four children: Maureen Fleming and her husband Michael of Belmont, Sheila Johnson and her husband Peter of Dartmouth, Kevin Hayes of Naples, FL, and Meave Carney and her husband Thomas LaCloche of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren: Craig Abruzzo, Hilary Badoian, Brenna Ferrick, Douglas Carney, Alden Johnson, and Alyson Fleming; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 10 AM in St. Mary’s Church 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery and an informal gathering at 87 Rockland Street (children welcome). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to St. Mary’s Church 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth, MA 02748.
