Fred was born in New Bedford, son of the late Bror A. and Alice M. (Smith) Johnson, and brother of the late Elsa Johnson. He lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.
He graduated from Tabor Academy, attended Ithaca College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from New England College. He spent most of his working career in the marine business. Fred was an avid skier and sailor. His sailing career started in Meadows Shore where his family owned a beach house. He started with a Beetle Cat that his Uncle Bob gifted him and went on to become an accomplished and respected racer with “The Big Boys”! Fred was an incredible skier, starting when he was age 3, with a wonderful family who took many trips together over the years. As soon as ski season ended, on went the shorts with thoughts of the ocean. Enjoying his many friends and sharing his MANY stories was the highlight of his life!
