G. Paul Cannan, 79, of South Dartmouth and San Antonio, TX passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 after a brief illness surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Edmonson) Cannan with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in San Antonio, TX, a son of the late Cecile and Viola (Luersen) Cannan he grew up there and came to New Bedford in 1958 when he joined the Coast Guard. It was during that time when Paul met the love of his life, Carole. He served in the Coast Guard until his retirement.
Paul was very active with the Freemasons. He was Past Master of the Noquochoke Lodge, Past District Deputy Grand Master District 19, Member Valley Southeastern, Aleppo Shriners, the Eastern Star, and the York Rite of New Bedford.
After his retirement, Paul worked various side jobs including Home Depot and Old Salt. In his spare time, he enjoyed being out side and spending time by the pool. He was a true “Mr. Fix It”.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Cannan of Fairhaven and Carolyn Miranda of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Heather Pauline, April Miranda, Ashley Galinha, Kattie Brun, and Grace Galinha; and four great grandchildren, Lea, Jayden, Logan, and Jaxon. He was the grandfather of the late Kristie Miranda.
His funeral service will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 10 am in WARING-SULLIVAN at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will follow in Smith Neck Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-8 pm.
