

Born in New Bedford son of the late Julius A. and the late Henrietta (Wainer) Seltzer, he has resided in Dartmouth for the past 45 years, New Bedford prior thereto. He graduated from the Massachusetts Pharmacy and the Massachusetts Dental School. Mr. Seltzer was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army National Guard, 65th Medical Detachment KJ Dental Team.
He was the Owner of the Seltzer Gift Shop in Dartmouth, a business he and his wife operated for the past 35 years and had also owned and operated the Seltzer Dental Lab in New Bedford and Dartmouth for 30 years.
Mr. Seltzer was active with both the Cub and the Boy Scouts, having been a Scout Master for many years. He led the scouts on a project to clean and rededicate the Jewish Cemetery on Mt. Pleasant St. in New Bedford and for many years Mr. Seltzer assisted with serving the homeless and shut-in families of New Bedford, serving Christmas dinner at St. John’s Church. He and his son Jeff earned the distinguished Eagle Scout Award with 3 Palms.
He was a member of the Greater New Bedford Jewish Federation, served on the Board of Tifereth Israel Synagogue and was chairman of its cemetery commission. He also served as Vice President of the former Temple Sinai and had been Vice President of the Jewish Community Center.
Surviving in addition to his wife, two sons Scott Seltzer of Framingham and Jeff Seltzer and his wife Susan of Ashland, one daughter, Lori Seltzer Provost and her husband Scott of Framingham, two grandsons Avery Lesser Seltzer and Ethan Matthew Provost
His graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:45am in Sharon Memorial Park, 41 Dedham St., Sharon, MA. Shiva will be held at the home of Jeff and Susan Seltzer of Ashland, on Tuesday from 1-4PM and 6-8PM and Wednesday from 2-4PM and 6-8PM.
