September 5, 1935 – April 24, 2021
Margery Matt, 85, passed away on April 24, 2021, with her daughters by her side. Margery was born to the late John and Josephine Grippo on September 5, 1935 in New London, Connecticut. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Peterson (fiance Ryan) of Ft. Myers and Lori Shephard (husband Walter) of South Dartmouth, MA, brothers John “Sonny” Grippo of Parrotsville, TN, Gregg Grippo of Norwich, sisters Jane Swan of Niantic and Marion Brumaghim, deceased.
Margery worked for the state of Connecticut for over 30 years where she was the Clerk of the Superior Courts in New London. She retired in 1994 and she then moved to Ft. Myers Beach.
Early in her retirement, Margery took up painting, specializing in water colors. She developed into quite the painter and her paintings are still on display in her daughters homes. Margery also loved to cook and she was always preparing meals to share with her friends and neighbors.
She was a wonderful mother who devoted her life to raising her daughters. She pushed them hard to be the best they could be and was very proud of what they have accomplished in their lives. Margery will be sorely missed but she will not be forgotten for the impact that she had on her family and others around her.
Arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. For online tributes, please visit: www.waring-sullivan.com

Dear Lori and Walter- was so very sorry to hear of your dear mother and mother in laws’s passing. Am so glad that she was surrounded by all of you. Losing a mother, no matter the age, is a hard one. In many ways they seem eternal to us-thankfully they are in many ways through us and future generations. Thinking about you and hope that your being with her and the many memories will sustain you.

I am so sorry for the loss of Marge and send my deepest condolences for Marge's daughter's, Kathy and Lori, and her entire family. I worked for Marge at the Court from 1988 until she retired. She had a profound effect on everyone, insisting that you work hard and to your potential. I have an amazing work ethic to this day and Marge is a big part of that! I certainly would not have had the career I have today if she hadn't hired me and molded me back then! I sent her a card a few years ago to thank her and update her on myself and a few others she had hired all those years ago, and was so happy that she wrote back to me! We had a great crew in that Clerk's office and we formed friendships that have lasted many decades. Marge will always be remembered by many for her strong work ethic and guidance to be your best....and she affected many who are now quite successful within state service because of her influence. Thank you Marge and may you rest in peace. Love to her family and friends, Vickie Lathrop

I have wonderful memories of Marge at GA 10 when I was deputy assistant states attorney. She always greeted me with a big smile on her beautiful face and always ready to assist with any problem in her competent manner. What a wonderful woman! She will be missed by all who knew her.
