Roger E. Boissonneau of New Bedford passed away at Hathaway Manor after a period of declining health. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Edgar and Bella (Emond) Boissonneau, he lived most of his life in New Bedford. He was the loving husband of Marian (Azevedo) A. Boissonneau for 63 years.
Roger will be remembered by his children as a loving and devoted father, attending most of his children and grandchildren’s events. He was the father of Kevin Boissonneau (Arlene), Rachel Machado (J.J), and Amy Calvao (Ken), and pre-deceased by a son Brian. He was so proud of his granddaughters Peyton and Makenna Calvao. Roger is survived by siblings Rita St. Pierre of New Bedford, sister-in-law Julia Boissonneau of Kansas City, Paulette Gadoury (Leo) of Dartmouth and the late Gerard Boissonneau. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Roger was a graduate of New Bedford High School and New England Barber School and attended Southeastern Massachusetts University. He owned Romy’s Barber Shop in downtown New Bedford in the 1960’s. He then moved on to UPS working in the Delivery Information Department for 27 years.
Roger was a communicant of St. Julie’s Parish in Dartmouth where he taught CCD classes and Marriage Preparation classes. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Roger loved all kinds of animals, but his passion was his greyhounds, owning and caring for them for the last twenty years. Most of all, he enjoyed family gatherings, friends and lots of laughter.
Roger’s Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements are in the care of WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748. Due to the current restrictions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, masks are required to attend the memorial mass. .
