Steven A. Bernier

July 16, 1965April 30, 2021

Steven A. Bernier, age 55, of Fall River passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 30, 2021. Born July 16, 1965 in Fall River the beloved son of Arthur Bernier of Dartmouth and the late Elizabeth (Foley) Bernier. The former husband of Anne Marie (Cambra) Bernier and the father of Zackery Bernier and Emma Bernier of Dartmouth.

Steve built a 30+ year career as a skilled carpenter and true craftsman. His selflessness was unparalleled, and his willingness to lend a hand knew no bounds. A simple yet deeply thoughtful man, he was always one to put others' needs before his own. Steve sought to put a smile on people’s faces and take care of the ones he loved, whether that be through a creative, silly gift or his ability to find a solution to any challenge he was presented. Steve was the first person to call in times of need and was the last person to accept gratitude. His life was built on a call to serve others and he was never satisfied until the job was done. Strong, reliable, and loving, he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his father, former wife, and two children, he is survived by two sisters, Diane Custadio and her husband Michael of N. Dartmouth, Suzanne Sosa and her husband Jesus of Portsmouth; four brothers, Paul Bernier and his wife Lorene of Coventry, Richard Bernier and his wife Nancy of Fall River, James Bernier and his wife Patricia of N. Dartmouth, and Donald Bernier and his wife Christine of Fall River; he was a beloved uncle and great uncle to many.

His funeral will be Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Parish, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth, MA 02747. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. For online tribute/directions:

It is with a very heavy heart accepting the loss of Steven, he was an amazing brother in law, with a spirit so unique

that I would enjoy our synopsis of circumstances that would surround the current events that we attended in life

Steven being somewhat my opposite in personality, I would joke with him about many privacy issues,

it would be priceless to see this serious man crack a smile as we would engage in our conversation,

It wouldn't matter what the current situation, would be, when I or Steven passed paths we would always depart smiling,

Sadly the last time I saw Steven was at my mother's wake, I didn't get to converse with him as I have so many times before,

Steven sat alone and to me appeared to be different, quiet and motionless, not the Steven I knew,

Feeling there may be something unsettling with Steven I elected not to engage in any conversation, feeling Steven was not up to any form of interaction

I regret not speaking to Steven, never would I imagine, that I would be seeing him for the very last time,

“In our sleep pain of which we can not forget falls drop to drop upon the heart when until in despair against our will becomes wisdom to the heart by the awful grace of God”

Farewell my brother, as you travel on your new journey, I know I will see you again someday on this side or the other
