

Born to Loukas and Fotini (Chonos) Pagania, on December 15, 1926, in the seaside village of Kato Vasiliki, Nafpaktias, Aetolia-Acarnanias, Greece. She was predeceased by her parents, eight sisters, and her husband, Konstantinos "Gus" Nicolaou.
In 1961, she immigrated to Canada through Pier 21 with her two children to join her husband in Halifax who arrived three years earlier. In 1973, Gus and Alexandra opened the Olympic Tasty Foods restaurant that operated in Woodside for more than 30 years. Alexandra was also an active member in Halifax's Greek community for many years. Alexandra was never far from her sewing machine or knitting needles. She always had a project on the go whether it was fixing an outfit for family and friends or knitting scarfs, mittens, sweaters, and blankets for her great-grandchildren who affectionately called her "big yia yia".
Alexandra is survived by her children; Joanne (John) Kiritsis and Sam (Kim) Nicolaou; grandchildren, Alexa, Adrienne, Tony (Lyndsy) and Kosta (Karen); great-grandchildren, Louka, Mikah, Amelia, Theodore, Yiannis and Sophia.
Visitation will be held at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 pm at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 1146 Purcells Cove Rd, Halifax with Father Panagiotis Maropoulos officiating. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George's Greek Orthodox Church or to a charity of your choice.
