OTTO, Betty Ruth (Moir) – 86. It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Ruth Otto announce her sudden passing on January 29, 2016 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Betty was the youngest child of Clifford A. Moir Sr. and Gladys (Hare) Moir. She was a devoted wife to husband, John George Otto, who passed away in December 2008. Betty grew up attending schools in Dartmouth and held many fond memories of the “Old Dartmouth”. Betty will be forever loved by daughters, Jean (Michael) Milner of Sackville, NS, Elaine (Bill) Jones of Sackville, NB and son John (Catherine) Otto of Belnan, NS. Betty was also a very proud grandmother to Ian and Cameron Milner and Claire Otto. Betty is survived by many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, brother and sisters-in law and friends whose kindness and love she valued greatly. Few were more special to Betty than nieces, Barbara Morrissey and Brenda Robinson of Ontario and Bonny (Thomson) Cockersell of Dartmouth. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Donald A. Moir, Clifford A. Moir Jr. and Jean (Moir) Thomson, brother and sister in law, James and Dorothy Otto of Truro, NS. and sisters in law, Cora (Austin) Moir and Barbara (Mason) Moir. Besides her family, music played an important role in Betty’s life. She studied music from the age of 5, continuing on to Mount Allison University where she studied piano and organ. She was also a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers’ College and went on to teach school music in Colchester, Cumberland and Hants Counties in Nova Scotia. Betty was always very proud of the many private piano students she taught over the years and enjoyed playing the church organ in Dartmouth and Truro at different stages in her life. The family cottage at Canoe Lake in Hants County held many fond memories for Betty and her family as did the long lasting friendships made while living in Truro, Windsor, and Amherst. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home of Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Christ Church 61 Dundas Street. Burial will take place in the Church Columbarium. Donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital or a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital for their kindness and respectful care provided to Betty during her short stay there.
