

SPONAGLE, Bruce Gerald (Spin), 85, of Dartmouth died peacefully at home December 14, 2016 with family at his side. Born in Coddles Harbour, Guysborough Co., he was the son of the late Vernon and Lola (Laurie) Sponagle. He was a shipwright by trade and employed for 26 years at the Halifax Shipyard and was proud of his contribution to the construction of oil rigs. He then moved to H.M.C. Dockyard and retired, after 22 years, in 1995. He enjoyed motorcycles, singing and his dogs. His retirement was spent gardening, caring for the home he built in 1961 and travelling with Mary, his wife of 64 years. His greatest joy was his family of 7 children, 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Mary (Berrigan); daughters, Linda (Dave) Whyte, Maureen (Bill) Manley, Gail (Bryan) Mitchell; sons, Bruce (Elaine), Ken (Debi), Graham (Gail); brother, Brently (Gladys), Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Donna, in infancy; daughter in law, Cathy (Latter); brothers, Willard, Clyde, Lawrence and sister Mary Fanning. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18 from 2-4 & 6-8pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 19 at 2pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home.
