It is with great sadness that the family of Wade MacDonald has to announce his passing. On 22 May 2013 Wade lost his life-long brave & spirited fight against his genetic condition: Homocystinuria due to methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) deficiency - a metabolic disorder characterized by neurological manifestations. Diagnosed of this rare condition in October 1972 (age 12), Wade never complained or indulged in self pity, he just got on with the fight that became his life. His mom commented recently that “we never talked about what Wade couldn’t do, only what he could.” For all those who knew Wade, take comfort in knowing that his final days were made as comfortable as possible by the wonderful staff at 4C - Northwood Center in Halifax. Wade is survived by his wife of 14 years, Patricia (Burt); adorable daughters, Natalie (12) & Julie (7); mom, Sara Stewart (Don Smith); father, Charlie (Norma); brother, Scott (Melissa); sisters, Leslie & Kim (Sam). Wade leaves behind nieces & nephews, Amanda, Dakota, Alexa (Michael), Adrienne, Skyler & Great-nephew, Louka; as well as numerous aunts, uncles & cousins; & many, many friends & crib partners. Wade was known best for his many adventures in work & entertainment throughout the HRM. “The Mayor of Buskerville”, Wade spent 24 years selling programs & greeting people on the waterfront. “Crib Wade” could be found where ever there was a cribbage game on the go. He was a member for 26+ years of the Somme Branch Legion. The children at South End Baptist church called him “Mr. Cotton Candy” as he made cotton candy for the annual children’s program “Toonie Carnaval”. “Teddy Bear” his wife called him as he sang to her the song Teddy Bear at various Karaoke outings. Wade worked the carnival circuit with Ron Elliot Carnivals for a number of years. Then there was “Wade’s World” as the sign above his flea market tables read for many a year. For 10+ years Wade opened/supervised and worked very hard for Images 2001 stores/Kiosks. But, by far his favorite job was that of daddy & taxi to his little girls as he took care of them while Patricia worked. Wade loved people. He loved to joke around, have a good laugh & he talked to everybody. In lieu of flowers the family has set up an education fund for Wade’s two young daughters. Anyone wishing to make a donation can make a cheque out to “Natalie & Julie’s Education Fund” & pass it on to Patricia, (25 Campbell Avenue, Dartmouth NS, B2Y 2B1) or another family member. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 1 Regency Drive, Dartmouth, NS, 1:00 pm on Friday, May 31, 2013. Reception to follow.
