It is with great sadness that we relay the passing of Christopher Graham May, 61, at home surrounded by family on Sept 24, 2012 after a long and determined battle with colorectal cancer. Much loved by friends and family, Chris was born February 12, 1951, the son of the late George & Barbara (Roome) May.
Chris was happily raised in Dartmouth, attending Dartmouth High School and was a proud paddler for Banook Canoe Club. He went on to become a power lineman first with Nova Scotia Light and Power and later with several private power companies which took him to many regions of Canada, including all the Maritime provinces as well as Quebec, Ontario and the Northwest Territories. Although he did not spend a long time working in the North, Chris loved the land, the people and how they lived. At the age of 48 he went back to school to study to become a massage therapist – a profession that also truly suited him and made many friends from all over the world who would travel to Halifax and call on his talents. Chris had the ability to think outside the box and obstacles were rarely a problem. He could fix anything and many items were rescued from the trash with the help of a couple of sips of Captain Morgan and were transformed into objects with a whole new purpose. He spent wonderful times over many years at Waland, his home-away-from-home in Musquodoboit Harbour. This beautiful place was built from the ground up with his own hands, his vision, expertise and wisdom and decorated naturally with a smattering of special points of view within the home, gardens and beyond.
Besides his long-time partner – Heather Wildsmith – Chris is survived by sons, Robin May (Christa Schennery), Ken (Jennifer) May and step-daughter Beckie Wildsmith (Lee Mannette). He will be thoroughly missed by grandchildren and step-grandchildren; Beth, Katelyn, Zea, Liam, Violet, Mason, Courtney, Taylor and Ryan as well as cousins, nieces and a nephew. Siblings left to mourn his passing are Robert (Louise), Nfld; Elizabeth, Peter (Kim), Alan (Ann) and Noel, Nova Scotia. Broken-hearted is his constant canine companion, Barbie and his somewhat reluctant feline, Farrah. Besides his parents Chris was predeceased by his brother, Murray. Cremation has taken place. At his request no service or visitation will take place. Chris wanted to especially thank his brother, Rob & very good friend, Randy Mitchell who called every day to check on him, Dr. Bruce Colwell and Laverne, as well as the chemo staff on the 11th floor of the VG for their great support and Susan Turner from the VON. Chris has asked that you take time to get screened for colorectal cancer. Life is far too short and there are so many adventures yet to be that he wished he could be a part of. Please make your donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to:www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
